Information security updates and events from the past week
1. The French Ministry of Finance reports a cyberattack and a leak of information from the tax authority
According to the ministry, the attacker penetrated the country’s tax authority systems in June, stealing information from about 678k citizens and businesses. At this stage, it is still investigating what information was stolen, and when the investigation is complete, a notification will be sent to all affected citizens.
2. Cryptocurrency company Bits of Gold is reporting today (Sunday) a cyber incident that occurred a few days ago, in which information about customer details was apparently stolen, such as full name, ID number, email and IP addresses, and phone number. In other words, information that could be used for “phishing” scams was stolen
The company emphasizes that customers’ money and currencies were not affected, as were passwords and copies of ID cards and credit card information.
It noted that the company’s customers should be alert to inquiries from third parties, including attempts to impersonate official entities.
The cyber incident at Bits of Gold is part of a wider cyber incident worldwide, in which a software company that Bits of Gold uses was hacked. According to estimates, there are hundreds of companies around the world that were affected, with no other Israeli company known at this stage. Therefore, it is estimated that Bits of Gold was not a direct target of the attack.
3. Energy corporation Shell reports that it is investigating a cyber incident after the Clop ransomware group published the corporation on the leak’s website
According to the group, the stolen information, in volume 89GB, includes engineering drawings, images of facilities, information on projects and more
Shell announced that they are investigating suspicion of the incident but did not provide further information.
The Clop group has published several other major victims such as Philips, Zebra, and others, from whom information was stolen, apparently as part of the attack campaign against Windchill and FlexPLM systems

4. Wesco, a company that provides logistics, electricity, communications, etc. services, reports a data leak from its cloud environment
The attack group ExfilSquad published Wesco as a victim on the leak site, claiming that it stole approximately 2.6 million records including information on customers and employees.
The group published the information it stole after the deadline passed, and the company did not pay the ransom. Wesco claims that there were no disruptions to operations and that no sensitive financial information was stolen…
5. French rugby club Stade Francais Paris reports a cyberattack that caused disruptions to its computer systems
The club claims that they were able to restore the systems from backups and that operations have returned to normal. The Qilin Group took responsibility for the attack and published documents belonging to the players.
6. South Korean business channel 3Pro TV reports a leak of approximately 460,000 records
According to the company, an external attacker gained access to the channel’s application and stole user information, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, and more… For some customers, financial information such as bank accounts and credit cards was also exposed.
